Gray first began pursuing cinematography seriously whilst studying Film Production at the University of Cape Town.


There he shot short films with director Greg Bakker such as Alona and Windstil  which won awards at the Shnit International Short Film Festival and Jozi Film Festival. 

After graduating, he shot his first feature length film in Japan, Relics, which premiered at the Durban International Film Festival. He then began working freelance in the South African film industry on commercials, feature films and documentaries.


Most recently Gray shot his first feature length documentary project, The Home, which was funded by the NFVF and chosen to represent South Africa at IFP Film Week in New York and at Durban Talents, supported by Berlinale Talents, as part of the Durban International Film Festival.
